Getting in front …

I’ve been trying to get in front with my cardmaking at the moment so that I have the card made BEFORE the occasion instead of on the day of … or the day after! LOL! So here are a couple of the cards I’ve been making …..

This one uses Ruby Red, Night of Navy and the Lots of Bots set from the Autumn/Winter Mini catalogue. I needed a boy birthday card so I thought you can’t really go wrong with Robots! This one will also be part of the Stamp-a-Stack on Sunday afternoon (email me ASAP if you’d like to come along)

And this card uses the gorgeous A Rose is a Rose stampset. I’ve stamped with Mellow Moss and Cameo Coral using various impressions of ink – stamped off up to 3 times for some images. Of course I used my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig (SAMJ) to do the 2-step stamping  …. gosh that tool makes it so easy! I used Mellow Moss cardstock for the base card, but I thought the Cameo Coral cardstock as a mat behind the stamped images looked too bright for the subtle floral look I was going for so I chose Blush Blossom instead and it matches in quite well with the lighter impressions of Cameo Coral. The greeting comes from the Occasional Greetings stamp set and I used my markers to achieve a multicoloured image.

Stay tuned in the next few days for another fabulous special using one of the sets I’ve used here …. which one do you think it will be?!! Take care, K 🙂

Low stock update: Close to Cocoa Cardstock

Just an update … if you really want a pack of A4 Close to Cocoa cardstock (item no 108600) please email me ASAP with your order.

SU! has advised us that they are running low on this and expect stock to have run out within the next few days. There will be no more A4 packs available after that as it is one of the retiring colours. You will still be able to purchase the Earth Elements assorted cardstock packs (in A4 and 12″x12″ – textured and plain) for the moment if you only need a couple of sheets of this colour.

To find out which colours are retiring please check out this pdf. If you would like any products that come in these colours (ink pads, ink refills, markers, cardstock, ribbons, etc) then please email me your orders soon, as once stocks run out, they will not be manufacturing more of products in these colours (lots more fabulous colours coming in September though!)

Recessed cards

Today Laura and I held another class, this month it was on Recessed Cards. I designed a ‘Faux Recessed’ Scalloped Circle Card …….

And Laura designed a Recessed Window card using a template she had used previously from www.splitcoaststampers.com, here she has used the A Rose is a Rose stamp set in Riding Hood Red with Chocolate Chip Cardstock, DSP and Ribbon and a little bit of Kiwi Kiss too.

Now, when I am the ‘student’ at a class, I sometimes like to change the card around a little (stop laughing Alicia!!!:P) and a couple of the girls today asked if there were any other designs apart from Laura’s for them to see, so when I made mine I decided to use a different set to show them what else you could do!

I used the Welcome Home stamp set for the house and trees image and stamped it in Old Olive on the cardstock I was using then in Chocolate Chip on a scrap piece and cut the house out (like I have done previously with this set) I then used flowers from the Trio Flower Punch and leaves from the XL 2-step Bird Punch for my embellishments…. plus a little bit of chunky sprinkles on the flowers for some bling! You can see on the second picture how the images have been layered to create a 3D effect in the recessed window.

So, what do you think? Do you have a preference? Do you like or dislike them all? Let me know! And don’t forget, if you’d like to learn how to make these cards, give me a call or send me an email and I can arrange a class for you!

Have a great weekend! K 🙂

Cyberchallenge night!

Last Friday was INKlings cyberchallenge night again and, although I wasn’t able to do them on the night, I’ve been having some fun doing the challenges. Fiona was the hostess for the evening … you can visit her here and see her creations …

Here is my attempt at Challenge 1: a 4″x4″ card with a DSP envelope

I used Kraft cardstock as the base and ran it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, then added some Pink Pirouette striped grosgrain at the top. For the central image, I stamped then cut out the elephant from the Nursery necessities set and mounted it onto a 1 3/4″ Whisper White circle that had been stamped with stars using the 2nd impression of Pink Pirouette Ink *. This was layered onto a 2 1/8″ circle of Pink Pirouette cardstock and I added the ‘It’s a girl!’ sentiment using the Word Window punch to punch it twice to create the shorter window size. I think it needs some bling so I’m going to add some dazzling diamonds too … just as soon as I find my little pot of it!!!

Challenge 3 was a colour challenge: Baja Breeze, Pretty in Pink, Kraft, Chocolate Chip and Whisper White …..

I needed an engagement card so I decided this would be a nice colour combination for that. I used my Heart to Heart punch to punch the ‘windows’ from the Whisper White before layering the Baja Breeze DSP behind it. Then, before I punched out the White and Pretty in Pink hearts, I used the ‘text’ stamp from the Rustic Rooster set to stamp in Pretty in Pink on the Whisper White cardstock and in White Stazon on the Pretty in Pink Cardstock. I then layered these onto the panel using SNAIL and dimensionals. Usually I would have added another layer and punched a scalloped edge or something like that, but I decided to use ribbon and a ‘Teneale’ bow instead for a change – and used a Button Latte button to finish off the bow 😉

Challenge 2 is still to come… need to be more awake to do that one, the coffee is starting to wear off! Thanks for the challenges Fiona! K 🙂

* to get the 2nd impression of the Pink Pirouette Ink I inked up the stamp, then stamped onto scrap paper once before stamping onto the Whisper White – this creates a lighter image in the same colour

‘Killer’ card!

We were invited to a 30th birthday party the other weekend and the birthday boy plays guitar in a band, and so, knowing the birthday was coming up, when I saw Rachel’s punchart guitar card during the INKlings Masculine Blog Hop I filed that idea away! Of course, I left it until the last-minute to make the card so it’s not quite as good as it should be – or as good as Rachel’s! I think I need some ‘guitar practice’ !! LOL!

Anyway, he didn’t open the card on the night, but the next day hubby got a text message saying that the card was ‘killer’ and I was ‘awesome’ for making it!! LOL! I don’t think I’ve had a card described as ‘killer’ before, but I’ll take the compliment!!

I used Basic Black and Brushed Silver (from the Brushed Metallics pack) to make the guitar and the card base was Bordering Blue with a Basic Black mat and Whisper White that I sponged the edges of with Basic Gray. I used black brads from the Vintage brads pack and I had the silver cord from a couple of years ago, but unfortunately it is retired now 😦 I cut the ’30’ using my Timeless Type dies on my Big Shot (have I mentioned that I love that machine … and the Timeless Type Alphabet dies?!)

Considering I made it in about 15 minutes I was pretty impressed with how the guitar turned out … must be Rachel’s fabulous instructions!! Make sure you go check hers out!

Take care, K 🙂
