Stamping friends

I have been very lucky to ‘meet’ some lovely girls in the past few years and lucky me, I am getting to meet some of them in just over a weeks time! Can you tell I am excited?!! I am so excited that I can’t even decide what stamping things I want to take with me because I know I will probably chatter too much and not get much stamping done! LOL! Anyway, my reason for this post is that I wanted to thank 2 of these lovely online friends for the blog awards they gae me a while ago. I know my blog has been a bit hit and miss over the past year but I hope you have seen some more regular posts lately and are enjoying my creations. So thankyou to the lovely Cath Dean (who probably thought I was insane the first time she spoke to me on the phone when I chatted to her for several minutes and then exclaimed! “Oh! You’re Cath from the forum!” silly me!) be sure to have a look at Cath’s lovely blog here if you haven’t already visited her during the blog hop … or just visit her again 🙂

The other gorgeous person to give me an award was Clare McIllhatton 🙂 Clare makes me smile everytime I read her blog and has so many inspiring ideas (she is a whiz with punches!) and you can check her blog out here. Clare also decided to inspire some of the INKlings team that weren’t able to make it to Convention this year and one of her challenge was to make an orange bag in honour of the orange convention bag! Here is my orange bag  (and orange card) ….

Now, seeing as Clare’s favourite colour is orange, guess where I sent the bag and card?! Glad you liked it Clare xx

You can see that I embossed the Upsy Daisy flowers on the Sunny Garden DSP with White Embossing Powder. Love the way this looks and will have to use more DSP like this I think 🙂

So, to honour the awards , I am now supposed to tell you a few things about myself and then link to some other blogs I am inspired by, here we go …..

* I love my electric blanket and was devastated when I had to go without it for a month!

* I have 2 boxes full of fabric and another one full of sewing kits in my study wardrobe! …. and don’t get me started on the yarn collection in there!

* I am a hoarder (see above!)

* 3 favourite things: wine, coffee, chocolate ….. not always in that order 😉

* I love organisational things but just never seem to actually BE organised!

* I am excited like a little kid to see the new bulbs flowering in the garden at the moment!

* I love sending and receiving postcards – so exciting to get snail mail these days!

Well, there’s some facts about me, and here are some lovely blogs I have found to pass the awards on to:

Recessed cards

Today Laura and I held another class, this month it was on Recessed Cards. I designed a ‘Faux Recessed’ Scalloped Circle Card …….

And Laura designed a Recessed Window card using a template she had used previously from www.splitcoaststampers.com, here she has used the A Rose is a Rose stamp set in Riding Hood Red with Chocolate Chip Cardstock, DSP and Ribbon and a little bit of Kiwi Kiss too.

Now, when I am the ‘student’ at a class, I sometimes like to change the card around a little (stop laughing Alicia!!!:P) and a couple of the girls today asked if there were any other designs apart from Laura’s for them to see, so when I made mine I decided to use a different set to show them what else you could do!

I used the Welcome Home stamp set for the house and trees image and stamped it in Old Olive on the cardstock I was using then in Chocolate Chip on a scrap piece and cut the house out (like I have done previously with this set) I then used flowers from the Trio Flower Punch and leaves from the XL 2-step Bird Punch for my embellishments…. plus a little bit of chunky sprinkles on the flowers for some bling! You can see on the second picture how the images have been layered to create a 3D effect in the recessed window.

So, what do you think? Do you have a preference? Do you like or dislike them all? Let me know! And don’t forget, if you’d like to learn how to make these cards, give me a call or send me an email and I can arrange a class for you!

Have a great weekend! K 🙂

Handy wipes!

I’ve been wanting to try out the Baby Wipe Brayer technique for a while now and the other day I finally got around to it! There are loads of tutorials and videos out there, but basically you just have a few baby wipes stacked on a plastic plate (or in a Tupperware Slice and Store!! LOL!) and create lines of ink along the stacked wipes using reinkers. I used 2 lines of Rose Red on one side, the in the middle was 3 lines of Pretty in Pink and on the other edge 4 lines of Pink Pirouette. I used less of the darker because I deliberately wanted the background to not be too dark IYKWIM?

Next, have your piece of glossy cardstock ready on top of some scrap paper and then start inking up your brayer on the baby wipes as if they are your inkpad … then just roll onto your cardstock! Very easy! As always, remember to only ink up your brayer and apply the ink to the cardstock in one direction at a time and to always start rolling just off the edge of your cardstock – hence the need for scrap paper underneath! Once you are happy, allow it to dry for a minute or two and then you can stamp on top of the background you just created 🙂

For my other colours I have used Regal Rose as the card base and Melon Mambo for the ribbon and the cardstock mat behind the glossy  piece. I also added some bling to the tips of the flowers! Gosh, a pink and sparkly card… who could it be for?!! ROFLOL!!! Hope you liked it!

Take care! K 🙂
